How to Read Heat Sheets
What is a Heat Sheet? What Does it say?
The Heat Sheet shows all participating swimmers for the meet and what events they will swim in, as well as the heat number and lane number. Listen over the loudspeaker for the announcer to call the event and heat number.
Heat Sheets are finalized prior to each meet based on swimmers who are/are not able to attend. There is also a possibility that heats may be "combined" to speed up the meet. For example, if we have three girls swimming Fly in the 15-17 age group and three boys swimming Fly in the same age group, we will combine them into one heat to save time.
The announcer will say if heats are combined. Please pay attention when it gets close to the time of your swimmer's event.
Event Number: There are a set number of events in each meet. We swim the Individual Medley, Freestyle Relay, Backstroke, Freestyle, Medley Relay, Breaststroke and Butterfly.
Heat Number: In each of the events, there are HEATS. Each heat has a set number of swimmers, depending on the size of the pool.
Lane Number: This will tell you in which lane your swimmer will race.
Seed Time: Once a swimmer participates legally in an event, they will have a "seed time" in that event for the next meet. Swimmers are placed in heats and relays according to their seed times.
Results
Seed Time: The swimmer's fastest time prior to this meet.
Heat Winner: First child to touch the wall, even if DQ'd later, will be given Heat Winner ribbon.
Event Winner: The swimmer with the fastest time in his/her age group will win the event. (This will be determined in the final heat of the event.)
