Swim Meet 101
On the day of a meet:
- Wear the current Skybrook Storm swim team suit and current team t-shirt.
- We will have a suit try-on day prior to the start of a new season. T-shirts will be distributed at practice prior to the first meet.
- Bring two towels, two pair of goggles (in case one breaks) and Skybrook Storm swim team cap. It's also a good idea to bring event reports (sent out the morning of a meet), and a black sharpie for marking your child's arm.
- Please mark your child's arm prior to the meet. If you attend practice the morning of a meet, a Skybrook Storm volunteer will do this for you.
- Skybrook Storm swim team caps will be distributed at practice prior to the first meet.
- Get there early to familiarize yourself with the location and set-up your chairs. Swimmers must warm up in the pool prior to the meet.
- Swimmers should head to your bullpen and check-in with your coach.
- Volunteers should check-in with the volunteer coordinator.
- Bring lots of water/Gatorade (no soda) and healthy snacks. Concessions will also be available at all meets.
- Label everything!
- Apply sunscreen.
- Have fun!
What are time trials?
Time trials provide an opportunity for swimmers to race for a time before the first meet of the season. They are designed to provide an initial baseline time from which to measure a swimmer's progress throughout the season. These times help coaches plan relays and place swimmers in the proper events and heats for our first meet. Time trials also allow swimmers a relaxed environment to practice racing for our first meet. If you are new to swimming, know that swimmer's times are constantly being updated as they improve. The times earned at time trials are just a starting point!
Time trials will run just like a meet and swimmers will need to wear their current team suit.
Attendance at time trials is strongly encouraged. However, if your swimmer is not able to attend, our coaches can also use a swimmer's times from last year, if applicable, or swimmers can be seeded with NT ("No Time"). This is not a big deal.
